CP Spotlight | Curren$y

Uber talented, New Orleans bred Curren$y's long awaited album Pilot Talk (Island/Def Jam) hit record outlets today. After a long stint and consequent change of labels after problems under Lil Wayne's Young Money moniker and No Limit Records, the MC has dropped an ultimately solid work. This album carries on from the critically acclaimed Smokey Robinson Mixtape released back in February 2010. He has been commended for his lyrical depth and wordplay and maintaining the street sound and rap flow so well known from the South. His music is a definite testament to the region's staying power within the hip-hop scene and presents a refreshing take to a sometimes unoriginal musical landscape. If you are in need of some great hip-hop with a southern flare Curren$y is not only the MC of the moment but for years to come.  The album Pilot Talk is currently available through major retail outlets and online through Amazon and itunes.

New Music Tuesday--M.I.A

Today marks the return of controversial, alternative, "Paper Planes" star M.I.A with her third studio release MAYA. This disc is full of her signature eclectic style of diverging different musical styles of middle eastern sounds to electronic pop, hip-hop, rock, and funk. It takes the listener on a musical journey throughout her transition of becoming a mother and other life influences since Kala, the critically acclaimed album released in 2007. This album is full of creative highs and the lyrical depth fans have come to expect from the singer. Some stand out tracks from this album are the heavy rock tinged "The Message", the bass-heavy "Steppin Up" and sure single contenders "Teqkilla" and "Tell Me Why". George Steinbrenner dies at age 80

George Steinbrenner, owner of the NY Yankees ball club passed away in the early morning hours of July 13th after suffering a massive heart attack in Tampa, Florida. Seen as a legend in the baseball world for his leadership style, Steinbrenner was notably abrasive with his players and media alike. In a statement from his family, "He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports". No doubt the end of an era in New York baseball and the world of sports. His sons are expected to continue ownership of the NY Yankees.
